Relocating to Dubai – Necessary belongings to pack

Collect all the documents

Your documents need to be sorted out at first. You have tons of official documents in hand such as your passport, visa, birth certificates, educational certificates, marriage certificates, employment offer, etc.

If you are relocating to Dubai with your family, you need to add your kid’s document to the pack. It means that you must furnish school leaving certificates and academic transcripts.

Your passport should be valid for at least six months before you leave the country. Renewal is a time consuming process, so make sure you are dealt with it on time.

If you are relocating to Dubai to work or teach, you must have an employment offer letter and contract in your hand. Some other documents you need to take care of are property papers, driver’s license and ID card from your home country. Another thing that is a must is an attestation of necessary documents.

Start with cloth packing

When it comes to packing your clothes, you need to sort them out first. Not all the clothes will be good to go when relocating to Dubai. Keep in mind weather is blazing hot all the time, so you need to go with casual clothing and cotton-based dresses. Keep all the winter clothing at one side.

There is no use of jackets and jumpers in Dubai, you better skip them from your list. It’s always a good idea to categorize clothing based on family members so later you don’t need to spend hours finding an outfit. Since each family member will have a separate compartment for luggage, you can pack a small bag for everyone to keep things well organized for later use.

You can pack long-sleeve shorts, skirts and all lightweight dresses.

Always focus more on summer clothes. Choose modest clothing and skip the highly revealing dresses. In Dubai, you need to be particular about your outfit. Skin-revealing clothes are a big no as women wear dresses below the knees and also cover their shoulders. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t pack some of your favorite club outfits for night out and parties.

Pack your shoes

Summer is the ultimate weather in UAE, which means if you have some joggers and shoes for winter then you don’t need to pack them. Give them to needy people and pack light. The price of regular shoes is quite reasonable in Dubai, so you don’t need to pack all the rough shoes. Always use separate bags for shoe packing and don’t stuff them with clothes as they will make your clothes dirty. Make sure you bring a nice pair of water shoes that you can use for beach day out. Sandals are a comfortable choice for everyday use.

You can skip home appliance

The standard voltage in Dubai is 220V. It means that all your electronic appliances are useless in Dubai. What does it mean for you? Keep them in your home country and don’t increase your cargo expenses by packing them. In the UAE, you can easily find some furnished apartments with all the appliances and furniture. So, you won’t be feeling that bad for leaving your home appliance in your home country.

Always keep toiletries with you

There are tons of American and British brands in Dubai but it doesn’t mean you don’t need to pack your cosmetics and creams. Imported products are expensive in Dubai. If you have some sunscreens, lotions and cosmetics that suit you the most, you must pack them. You can make a separate toiletries bag.

Don’t forget electronics

It’s not hard for you to find quality electronics in Dubai. But why spend again when you already have top-quality headphones, charges and cell phones. Reserve some space in your suitcase for your electronics and don’t forget to pack all the chargers.

Make a list of Important Household items

When it comes to packing household items while relocating to Dubai from the UK, you need to prioritize the most important and valuable things.

Cargo will cost you money, so skipping some items that are somehow less useful can help you reduce overall relocating costs. Make a list of all the household items and then categorize them based on importance and value. If you have some toys and photo frames with some special values and memory, keep them.

Otherwise, you can let them go. Small household items are easy to pack and their shipment cost will be lower than big items. As you can easily rent a furnished apartment in Dubai, no need to carry some giant furniture items or heavy metal crockery.

Choose luggage carefully

When you are packing all the items before relocating to Dubai, you need to take care of the weight and size of your luggage. Every ticket comes with a specific weight requirement for the luggage, keep it in mind. If your luggage size or weight increases from the specified limit, every extra pound will cost you extra money. Keep cash, cards, laptops and important documents in a carry-on bag.

Always buy suitcases with durable and easy to maneuver wheels as you need to walk with them around quite often. When you are packing your household essential items, try to pick average size regular boxes. Small boxes take up too much space while large boxes crash quickly. Regular boxes on the other hand provide enough space for packing all the essential items.
