What is a DHA License?

DHA stands for Dubai Health Authority. DHA license is a work permit issued to healthcare professionals so that they can start medical practice in Dubai. Both residents and expat who want to work as medical professionals in Dubai must acquire this license from DHA to continue offering their medical services.

Who needs a DHA License in Dubai?

Before we tell you how to get a DHA license, you must know who is eligible for this license. The DHA Health Regulation Department (HRD) requires physicians, dentists, nurses/midwives, and allied healthcare specialists to get this license. Professionals from traditional, complementary and alternative medicine must have this license in their hand to continue doing medical practice in Dubai.

How to get a DHA Dubai license?

Here are some steps you need to take:

Step 1- Self-Assessment 

Before you get this license, you need to understand whether you are eligible to participate in the Dubai Medical Registry or not. To get a clear picture, you need to:

  • Visit The Sheryan Self-assessment portal on DHA website
  • Answer all the self assessment questions and share your qualifications.
  • System will analyze your qualification, answers, and experience and tell you whether you are eligible or not.

If you are eligible for the registry, continue with step 2. 

If you are not eligible, you need to seek manual review, here is how:

  • On the portal, you can submit your application by filling the manual review form and attaching all the documents.
  • Pay AED 200 fee. And submit the application.
  • Wait for DHA review that takes up to 10 working days.

Step 2- Create Sherayan account

Since you are eligible for the medical registry, it’s time to create your account on the DHA Sheryan Portal. Visit the site and then register a new account.

Step 3- PSC and CBT Assessment

PSV stands for Primary Source Verification and CBT stands for Computer-based Testing. Based on your profession, you need to clear both assessments to get a license.

In PSV assessment, DHA requires Dataflow group to screen professional applicants. During this process, the educational background of the application is checked by authorities. The purpose of this assessment is to ensure that only authentic medical experts find their way to the Dubai Medical Registry.

Prometric usually conducts CBT assessment of doctors, dentists and nurses. The purpose of this assessment is to ensure that the applicant has particular knowledge, experience and skill set.

Step 4-DHA registration

Once you clear your assessment, it’s time to register on the DHA Sheryan and continue with the license application formally. Here is what you need to do:

  • Click on the option “Register a professional”
  • Provide all the required details
  • Upload required documents
  • Pay AED 200 fee and submit your registration application
  • Your application will be under review by DHA. 

Step 5- Oral assessment

DHA requires some healthcare professionals to pass an oral assessment. So, you need to take an oral test with DHA. Here is how to schedule this test:

  • Schedule a date for oral exam
  • Pay the fee AED 250
  • Take the test
  • Pass the assessment.

Step 6- Activate professional license 

Once you pass the Oral test, and register with a DHA trade license, the next thing is to activate your license. Here is how:

Submit an inline application after you pick your professional registration

Once you get approval from the authority, pay the DHA license activation fee- AED 1000-4000 depending on your license category.

Here are some documents you need to submit:

  • Copy of your valid passport
  • Your educational qualifications
  • Your experience certificates
  • A recent photograph (passport size)

  • The Good Standing Certificate (GSC)
  • A 2-year surgical logbook (for surgeons)

How to renew a DHA license?

Your DHA license is valid for up to 1 year and you need to renew it after every year. You can apply for renewal within three months before the expiry date. You need to provide a copy of valid passport, updated experience, renewed malpractice insurance, PSV result for Good Standing, License validity and experience.

How to renew your DHA license? Step-by-step guide 

  1. Visit Sheryan portal, login to your account
  2. Upload the PSV document alongside the new certificate of the Malpractice insurance
  3. Submit the license renewal application
  4. Pay the Sheryan DHA license renewal fee
  5. Wait for DHA review

Once your application is review and approved, your license will be automatically renewed. DHA delivers it to your address through courier.

After passing the oral assessment, you need to activate the license on the official DHA portal. Apply for activation service, submit eligibility letter from DHA alongside Malpractice insurance certificate. Pay the fee, submit the application, DHA will review it and activate your license.

If a pharmacist needs DHA incense, it’s vital to go through PSV and CBT assessment. Then register yourself as a Pharmacist on the official DHA Sheryan portal (once tests are cleared). Next, schedule an oral assessment and activate your license after paying the fee.

How to renew DHA nurses license?

If your license has expired, you can review it within 3 months of its expiry date via Sheryan Portal. You need to upload a Malpractice insurance certificate, alongside documents needed for PSV verification. Pay the renewal cost of AED 200 and submit the application. The processing time is usually five days.

How to reactivate canceled DHA license?

If your license has been canceled by DHA and you want to deactivate it then you need to follow following steps:

  1. Visit official DHA Sheryan Portal and login to your account with your credentials 
  2. After you land on the dashboard, find the section dedicated for license services.
  3. Now you need to provide all the necessary documents for license activation such as:
  • Eligibility letter from DHA
  • Malpractice insurance certificate (valid)
  • Passport copy 
  • Good standing certificate or any other document required by DHA.

4.Pay the reactivation fee that depends on your professional license category. Submit the application

5.Once DHA will review your application, it normally takes a week, then they will update the status of your application. If  everything is in order, then your canceled DHA license will be reactivated by DHA; otherwise you need to contact authority to understand why they didn’t reactivate your license.

Keep in mind that you can’t practice in the medical field until your canceled license is reactivated. If your application is rejected, you need to fix the issues mentioned by DHA and reapply. You can only resume your medical practice, once your DHA license’s status is active.

How to renew an expired DHA license?

You can renew an expired license by paying a license renewal cost of AED 200 on the Sheryan portal. Login to the portal, upload your Malpractice insurance certificate and other documents required for PSV verification, submit the license renewal application and wait for DHA review.

What documents are required for a DHA license for doctors?

Here are some documents you need to furnish, if you want to obtain DHA license as a doctor:

  • Your recent passport-size picture
  • A copy of your valid passport
  • Good standing certificate, valid for six months
  • You need to provide verification results for your experience and qualification. Make sure all the results meet PQR requirements.
  • You will provide logbook for surgical specialties (last two year)
  • CBT assessment results (if applicable)

How long does it take to get DHA License Dubai?

Yes, it’s possible. But you must have six months of on the job experience for making this conversion.
